Barcode generation checks

A barcode that looks correct on screen can still fail in production. Module width, quiet zone, label material, print darkness, and scanner distance all affect reliability.

Choose the barcode symbology based on the business requirement, not only the shortest ZPL command.

Leave quiet zones around 1D and 2D codes so scanners can detect the symbol boundary.

For GS1 data, confirm application identifiers, date formats, and FNC1 separators before printing labels at scale.

Print a small batch and scan from realistic warehouse or retail distances before approving a template.

Operational context

Barcode quality is a production requirement, not a decorative detail. A label may be readable to a person and still fail a handheld scanner if the module width, quiet zone, contrast, or printed size is wrong.

When working with GS1, keep the data rules separate from the visual label layout. Validate application identifiers and separators first, then tune the ZPL command and physical print quality.
